So, I’d be lying if I said I don’t enjoy a good reality show * insert grimace emoji*

A show that has caught my attention is the Love Island franchise. And I will give it to the UK. No one does dramas like Love Island UK.

I don’t know how I stumbled across the first season where it was kinda a hot mess. They showed smoke breaks on camera, but they made it all the way to their current season, 7, and one scene that will probably have a place in the Love Island history books.

Hurricane Faye.

If you’re unfamiliar with Love Island the short and sweet of it is that it’s a show where contestants compete to find love. The likely driving force for people to be on the show: a huge chunk of money at the end of their journey if they find themselves to be the winning couple.

Bring in Faye.

She’s a contestant who has made it known repeatedly that someone has hurt her in the past, so she had a pretty solid guard up, but as the season continued, she seemingly found her match in later arriving contestant Teddy. Teddy comes across as a sweet guy who undeservingly was the focal point of hurricane Faye. We have to keep in mind the production team plays a part in how contestants are viewed and structure the story being told. But Faye (smh) cursed this man all the way out. It was as if she was cursing out all the other men that have ever done her dirty out and channeled it all onto this undeserving fellow.

How did this come about, you ask? All because of a challenge in which a video clip of the contestants that was taken over the course of the show was shown back to the group. In the particular clip of Teddy, it was a moment from when he was in Casa Amour (the house of temptation) and said that he found another girl physically attractive.

That’s it. End of event.

He said he found another girl physically attractive and didn’t tell her about it and so she just went all the way off.

Here’s more context:

Casa Amour is a house in which the women and men that have grown to know each other are separated and placed with more members of the opposite sex to get them to either ditch the person they currently are with and get to know someone new or it helps them to solidify in their mind that they have already found the right partner.

This is where production is messy.

While both Teddy and Faye are in their new group production team makes it so that Faye sees a picture of teddy kissing another girl so while he comes back to the main house single as a dollar bill, she decided to re-couple because she thought he was playing her and unbeknownst to her it was a challenge that led another girl to kiss Teddy.

After a while, they got back together and once she saw that clip; she reacted as if he spit on her grave or something. I’ll insert a clip, but it was just too much and seemed to be misdirected anger.

I wasn’t surprised because there was an episode earlier in the series that showed that she had some issues within that she hadn’t quite dealt with fully. There was an episode in which a guy was expressing what he looked for in his ideal partner and he kept saying that he didn’t like fake people and Faye and another contestant felt he was targeting them since they had some cosmetic work done. It kind of illustrated that while she did some external work, she never quite got down to the core of what may have made her not feel 100% about herself.

Disclaimer:

This is not a poop on Faye post, this is a post to illustrate why self-introspection is important and how we as people are the things that block our own blessings.

There will always be someone people may see to be more attractive than you, so you must work on being secure within yourself.

And the thing is, Faye isn’t even an unlikeable person. She’s part of why this season was so entertaining. She stands up for her friends and speaks her mind. I think she, like every other person in the world, needs therapy because we all have had tough times we don’t always know how to cope with. She even paints the picture that she treats everyone guilty until proven innocent in terms of the trust. She doesn’t let people in, and I can say that may cause a lonely life. The act of always having your guard up. I’m not saying let everyone in, but you can’t look at everyone as a villain and that they’re going to hurt you.

Takeaways:

I want people to understand the fact that she’s on tv and has a personal record of her actions and can go back and see where she went wrong while other people don’t and are probably doing the same things she has done.

Think before reacting

Look at yourself and self reflect

Seek help if feel you need it

I hope she finds what she’s looking for and works on self-development.
