Hello Acutalizers,

Welcome to Dose of AD. A dose of self-actualization, self-development, and discovery. A place where I encourage people to work towards self-actualization and to let go of fear. With all that’s going on in the world, I feel a lot of us are not using our time wisely and working on personal growth. I get how scrolling through Instagram viewing everyone’s positive moments can be a pleasant distraction from doing the work. I understand Love and Hip-Hop can entertain, especially when Yung Joc turned his life around and met the love of his life and— I digress. Point is, a lot of time is being used to watch others live their life to the fullest, but few people are not turning their gaze inward to work on self. The primary goal in life is to become the best for you.

The psychologist Abraham Maslow outlined self-actualization in his hierarchy of needs. The hierarchy of needs was his 5 tier pyramid that outlines the motivations of people.

MASLOW’S HIERARCHY OF NEEDS:

Tier 1: Physiological Needs

This tier starts off with physiological needs and includes shelter and food. Things that are vital to life.

Tier 2: Safety Needs

The next level tier 2, is safety and security needs, and this includes financial security and health and wellness. It’s categorized along with tier 1 as basic needs to live.

Tier 3:Love and Belonging

The 3rd tier includes the social needs which are the need for belonging and being loved and helps to avoid loneliness includes both romantic relations and friends and family ties.

Tier 4: Esteem

This tier is the need for self-esteem. Tier 3 along with 4 revolve around psychological needs.

Tier 5: Self-Actualization

Finally, Tier 5 is the self-actualization tier. Self-actualization is the achievement of one’s full potential being self-aware and, in lack of better words, living your best life.

Takeaways

I will add that I do not believe it’s an all-or-nothing structure where if you don’t meet one area, you can’t move on. It’s flexible and depends on the values of the individuals. I’ll include a post that delves more into it and you can form your own opinion.

With all that said, I hope to aid people in working toward self-actualization while I go through it myself and I hope to lead by example. I hope you all take the journey with me and I’ll include tools I’m using on this journey, so take what you can apply to your life and share your tools as well.

Let’s begin this lifelong journey with Dose of AD.
